Choreographic creation and the therapeutic process

Choreographic creation as a tool in dance therapy

In this dissertation, the author wishes to clarify in what way the choreographic creative process can be a beneficial experience in dance and movement therapy. Using certain elements from contemporary and postmodern dance, readings from French and American authors in the field of dance therapy, as well as three choreographic experiences, two with psychiatric patients and one with a tetraplegic man, she proposes to attempt to show the mecanisms that can further a work in dance therapy, and be an element of change : to re-motivate the patients, encourage harmonious physicality, autonomy, and strengthen self-estime. In other words, this proposition hopes to analyse the ways in which a creative process in dance can be a therapeutic act.
